Christmas is not only fast approaching but also feels like it has come a little early this year. I think we are all in need of a little festive spirit and so the trees and decorations were hung as early as the 1st November for some families! And the Christmas spirit has really been reflected in the big brand TV commercials. We have rounded up our favourite ad this year to share with you.

Give a little love – John Lewis

Let’s start with the one everybody looks forward to, the John Lewis Christmas ad. Famous for its high quality tear jerkers, John Lewis is considered the gold standard of Christmas ads and this year is no exception. The running theme of kind deeds and spreading love runs through this sweet story. The ad begins with live action but quickly runs through different mediums such as 2D animation, stop motion and 3D and puppetry to create a beautiful mashup of styles. Overall a lovely feel good ad.

Kevin the Carrot – Aldi

Kevin has returned for the fifth year running with his epic journey home to his family with a little help from Santa played by Colm Meaney. This sweet story gives us a really warm and christmasy feeling, perfect for getting us into the Christmas spirit.

Unwrap the magic of Christmas – O2

This is the first year O2 has released a Christmas ad and we love it. A beautiful wintery scene is the backdrop for Darcy Murdoch, a professional skater and O2’s mascot Bubl. The two are in lockdown, unable to skate in reality, but continue to dream in the magical skating routine.

The show must go on – Amazon

Another triumph this year that focused on the covid theme was Amazon with the emotional story of a young dancer who misses out on her lead role due to lockdown, however with the help of her community, she is able to fulfill her dream and performs in a beautiful finale on the roof outside her home.

And finally, our personal favourite:

No-naughty list – Tesco

Now I know this is a slightly controversial favourite as John Lewis usually takes the top spot, however, we think that Tescos gives us a much needed smile this year. A selection of customers confess their hilarious ‘naughty deeds’ this year while being encouraged to treat themselves as the naughty list is canceled this year. I feel we can all relate to this after a tough year, so grab a mince pie, kick back and enjoy!
