The main reason for this shift is that animators can work remotely, meaning content creation is still achievable with social distancing in place. However, what marketers are now realising, is that animation is a much more powerful tool for conveying their messages than just a ‘backup’ option to live action video. Animation has the ability to convey complex messages in a way that live action video struggles with. The use of abstract shapes, characters and text can often explain the message in a more visual and understandable way. Explainers for example, have been popular for years. The clue is in the name, they explain ideas in a simple way.
But what if animation doesn’t fit my brand?
Well, we would argue that animation suits every brand! With animation, the possibilities are endless. The vast array of styles from 2D to 3D, stop motion to motion graphics means that animation can be adapted to fit your brand to engage your audience in a way live action cannot.
But isn’t animation expensive?
It can be, but it really depends on what you want. If you want a flashy 3D photorealistic animation, then yes this will be expensive. But if you want a simple 2D motion graphic animation to explain how your customer can collect their products from you during lock down, a 2D explainer video will not only cost a lot less, but will be faster to turn around and more effective at conveying your message. Your message should be the main focus so don’t get distracted by the style, speak to your production house about what would suit your messaging best.
